Schönwalder Straße

This project contained a roof renovation of an apartment building with a solar requirement in Berlin. We asked ourselves how photovoltaics could be used most effectively here. The system was built entirely on the commercial unit on the ground floor of the building. A tenant electricity model did not have to be used, but the party on the ground floor can enjoy a high level of self-sufficiency.

  • Solar Requirement & Roof Renovation

In this project, the PV system was specifically designed for the commercial unit on the ground floor of the multi-family building. The big advantage: the often complex tenant electricity model was not necessary in this case. Instead, the commercial party uses the self-generated electricity directly, increasing its energy independence and sustainably reducing its energy costs.

  • Technical Implementation of PV During Roof Renovation

The building’s flat roof offered only very limited usable space for photovoltaics. Therefore, a custom technical solution was developed: in close coordination with the roofer, the PV modules were mounted on the upper gable ends. This position not only allows for better orientation toward the sun but also meets structural requirements that must be considered during a roof renovation. High-efficiency modules and mounting systems were used, capable of delivering strong yields even on limited surfaces – a crucial factor for many multi-family buildings with constrained roof space.

  • Solar Requirement as an Opportunity for Multi-Family Buildings

This project demonstrates how Berlin’s solar requirement can be sensibly implemented during a roof renovation. With careful planning, the PV system not only met legal requirements but also created economic benefits. This model is especially promising for multi-family buildings with commercial units: less bureaucratic effort, greater energy independence, sustainable energy supply – all in harmony with the energy transition.
